On October 27, 2005 Asian Textile and Clothes conference was held at “Tbilisi Marriott” hotel. Representatives from CACCI member countries were present at the conference.

After the welcoming speech the chairman at the conference – Ray Dacal stressed that textile and clothes sector is an important one in the economy of Nepal and some developing countries. It does not only brings currency into the country, but employs a lot of people as well.
Georgian representatives took part in the conference and presented their activities. They expressed their hope that CACCI will assist them in business development and that they will cooperate.
“We have to work together as a team. We need new technologies along with new ideas which will bring benefit to the Asia-Pacific region”, said Ray Dacal.
He also said that holding of a business meeting is possible at which the activities of each Georgian businessman will be considered in details and the Georgian part will be reminded about what CACCI can do for Georgia.
It was also stated at the conference that one of CACCI’s objectives is rendering assistance to the developing countries and supporting them. All developing countries, including Georgia, should do their best to increase exports and reduce imports the way Bangladesh, Sri-Lanka and other countries do.
Ray Dacal said that small, poor and developing countries should implement exports by common efforts so that they could have a good position on the market.
“We will support them, and if you need any recommendations we can sit at the table and speak.”
It was also stressed at the conference that one of the main objectives of the meeting was establishing of textile and clothes manufacturing status for which additional meetings are necessary.
Ray Dacal said that in his country he has more than 3000 people employed in his textile and clothes manufacturing business.
“We have to consider the problems together and help each other. CACCI should help those countries that do not have own raw materials for production”, said Ray Dacal.
Vice President of Asian Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Rudy J. Pesik expressed his concern over rising in price of goods on the Asian market. China is known in the world as the cheapest country, but presently the prices of textile and clothes are very high in China as well.
It was agreed upon at the conference that another meeting should be arranged at which all the problems will be discussed in more detail.
Representatives from Japan, Vietnam and Thailand were not present at the meeting. As the chairman said in jest, “they do not have any problems and that is why they are not present at the conference.”
