GS1 STANDARDS in Georgia
Establishing of GS1 union, which is the assignee of “Ean Georgia”, took place on the 3rd of May, 2005 in Tbilisi Marriot.
General meeting of “EAN Georgia” members took place. Representatives of international organizations have been invited to the meeting. The board has been elected and the statute the Union has been approved at the general meeting. Irakli Baidashvili was elected president of the Union and Shota Makatsaria was elected vice-president. Budget has been approved as well. George Laliashvili took up the post of executive manager.
GS1 is an international non-profitable company incorporating over 103 countries’ organizations. Its standards are applied by the world’s more than 1 million companies. The organization’s mission is to introduce standards for the improvement of supply and demand management network. The Georgian organization has 150 member-companies.
At this stage, the organization’s principal activities include issue of bar codes. Yet, there is much to be introduced in this field through different directions.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Georgia and CACCI – confederation of Commerce and Industry Chambers of Asia-Pacific countries ? major businessmen’s organization in the area – arranged a meeting of the working group in “Sheraton Metekhi Palace”, Tbilisi, on the 19th of April 2005. This event was organized to prepare for the 70th conference of CACCI and for the first Asian business forum to be held in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, in October 2005.
In the meeting, the Committee considered and planned CACCI events for 2005 that provided for advocating the organization’s policy, increasing the number of members and their training as well as promoting relations with other regional and international organizations. CACCI president, Mr. K.K. Modo met the prime-minister of Georgia Zurab Nogaideli.
On the initiative of the Industry and Commerce Chambers of Georgia and Iran, as well as the Union of Businessmen, Iranian and Georgian business forum was held in hotel “Ambassador”, Tbilisi on the 25-26th of April.
The business forum was attended by major Iranian businessmen who plan to study opportunities for large-scale investments in Georgia. The businessmen are much interested in pharmaceutics, construction, tourism, engineering industry and banking field. Of utmost importance is Iranian businessmen’s willingness to make large-scale investments in energy sector, namely, to invest several millions in the construction of hydroelectric power stations.
Mr. Jemal Inaishvili and Saied Alinagi Khamush, the presidents of the Commerce and Industry Chambers of Georgia and Iran, signed a cooperation agreement. Based on the agreement, Georgian-Iranian business council was formed. The council will promote and strengthen business relations between the businessmen of the two countries.
On the 26-28th of April, the forum continued its work in Batumi where meetings with business circles of Adjara autonomous republic took place. Iranian businessmen got acquainted with the port infrastructure.
