Italians are exploring Georgian market

FROM THE REDACTION

On July 8, the president of Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jemal Inaishvili met the delegation of Italian Chamber of Commerce.

The possibilities of closer economic cooperation between the countries were considered at the meeting. According to the data of 2004, Italian import made up 56,9 million USD, while Georgian export 10,6 million USD. The present level of the current economic relations does not correspond to real potential. The attraction of Italian investments to all sectors of the economy is very important for Georgia. There may be good prospects for joint enterprises, agro business, production of building materials, machine-building, telecommunications, financial leasing, etc.
Closeness of Georgia to the largest export markets (Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan) creates a good export potential for joint enterprises.
The study of the Italian experience would be interesting from the viewpoint of development of medium size business.
The cooperation between Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Union of Italian Chambers of Commerce will contribute to the development of Georgia-Italia trade and economic relations.
Among the members of the Italian delegation are: Augusto Strianeze ( the President of Italian Union of Commerce, Industry, Workmanship and Agriculture Chambers), Pietro Bakarini (the President of Italian United Chambers of Commerce, the Vice President of Romania Region’s Bank), Marko Pozolli (the representatives of Italian United Chambers of Commerce), Karlo Spanioli (the Head of the Foreign Relations Service of Italian United Chambers of Commerce), Fabrizzio Mareno (Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Italy in Georgia), Soso Danelia ( the representative of Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Italy).
The Italian delegation was received by the Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Nogaideli. They also met the Minster of Economy Irakli Chogovadze, and the Minister of Agriculture Mikho Svimonishvili.
The delegation visited “Telavi Wine Marani” (location for storing wine in special pitchers) in Kakheti region. Representatives of traditionally wine-making country viewed the production line and expressed their wish concerning technological renovation. They also expressed their wish concerning implementation of serious technical programs and improvement of both primary production methods and mixing by means of leasing or direct investment.
