FROM THE REDACTION

A rather important period begins in Georgia in August – the flow of “black gold” has reached Georgia by means of Baku – Tbilisi – Jeikhan oil pipeline.

The project of the century has taken place, and the subject of oil and natural gas transit becomes more relevant, and not only because transit is very important for Georgia, but also because we are given a chance of our energy security and independence from Russia. That is why we are presenting a sensational material about Iran – Armenia – Georgia – Ukraine – Europe gas pipeline. The main trends of the world economy, as well as our plans and the forecast for the future are also important. There are a lot of people in our government who believe that forecasting and formulating of the strategic line of development is a thankless matter and that we do not need it at all, the main thing is activities. However it reminds of a boat in the ocean that has no course and depends on the current only. Sometimes I think that we are carrying out experiments, and do not know what results we will get in the end or what we are looking for. From time to time we sell something and loudly declare about it, sometimes we build something and later it turns out that we cannot sell it, and that there were no investments, then we apologize, and sometimes we “invent a bicycle”. But I still think that we need a single action program. For example the state bureaucratic apparatus was reduced (but not bureaucracy itself). But where do these people go, what they do, and do they need assistance on the part of the authorities? Market economy works wonders, but it cannot do everything. That is why in this issue we present you the analysis of the unemployment situation in Georgia and the prospects of its improvement.
We present a review of the internal market, both financial and industrial, as well as statistics concerning the processes that took place in Georgian macro economics.
Traditionally we present accounting and tax bulletin. We will touch upon the peculiarities of accounts in small and medium – scale business.
The subject of liquidation of price inspection is also interesting, which has been one of the business controlling bodies for many years, and it was not that disinterested. We will also consider the transformation of Antimonopoly Service into the Agency of Free Trade and Competition, which was formed as a qualitatively new institution that has no analogues in the world. What is it – a pleasant innovation or “new bicycle”? Starting from this issue we invite you to take part in the discussion on this subject. We traditionally present a business calendar for August, as well as important economic events though August is a month of holidays and rest, and that is why there is less economic activity, and all projects will begin from September. So see you in September.
