Tourism incomes in Ajara have exceeded 23 million GEL

This year twice as many tourists have had a rest in Ajara than last year. As the chief of Tourism and Resorts Department of Ajara autonomous republic – Temur Zoidze told GHN news agency, this year the number of holidaymakers have reached 127 thousand people, and it will increase to 160 thousand till the end of the season.
According to Zoidze, this means that the number of holidaymakers has increased by 100% compared to the last year, since the number of holidaymakers in Ajara made up 80 thousand last year. The increase of the number of foreign holidaymakers is especially considerable.
This year 5 times as many foreigners have had a rest at Ajara resorts. Mainly the number of tourists from Armenia has increased. This year 16 thousand of Armenians have had a rest in Ajara, while last year their number did not exceed 3 510 people (which makes up a 355% increase).
The flow of tourists from such countries as Ukraine, Spain, Poland, Turkey, Germany, the US, Azerbaijan, Iran, etc. has increased. The incomes from tourism in both private and public sectors have exceeded 23 million GEL, which is 42% more than the last year’s indicator. This indicator made up 16 million GEL last year.
60-70% of the total incomes falls on the share of the income obtained from foreign tourists.
According to Zoidze’s statement, this year Ajara’s hotels have worked with capacity load. He also said that the “velvet” season has begun in Ajara, and they expect holidaymakers till October 25.
