FROM THE EDITOR

Jemal Inaishvili

I wish you, our devoted readers, a wonderful Easter. April was a rather strained month in both the parliamentary life and in politics on the whole.

In conditions of internal economic transformation we had to struggle against the external forces and retain social stability against the background of rising of fuel and gas prices in the world. This is a rather significant epoch for our statehood, that is why we tried to make this April issue a mirror for these various processes.
Serious work is underway in the country with the object of supporting the export potential and development of new markets. The visit of the President with a big group of businessmen to China – the country with the most rapidly developing economy – served this purpose. When the Chamber of Commerce and Industry was preparing for this business-official visit, the main thing for us was declaration of the support for this market, trying to understand Chinese lessons of economic reforms and elaboration for us, legislators, of such normative base (an appropriate one) that provided for an unprecedented economic growth and investment boom in this country. The President had many interesting meetings and in each of them there was the concept – for our business to learn to swim in the ocean of the Asian business. We shall tell you about it in our special material. The review of America’s economy, which is our main economic partner, especially against the background of a strained international situation and particularly the one having to do with Iran, was also important. We shall present you the review of the US economy, the priorities of the next budget year and the analysis of this conflict. It is very important from the viewpoint of rising of energy resources prices and, against this background, for forecasting of the future situation in our country. We also have not left without attention the issues related to European integration that have become relevant against this background not only for us but for Europe itself, which is seeking for a safe transportation way within the framework of the energy balance.
A the end of April our magazine and the Chamber of Commerce, along with the US International Development Organization, arranged a conference on one of the most important issues of economic reforms – the problems related to certification, metrology, accreditation and food safety in Georgia. Many international organizations, representatives of the executive and legislative power, businessmen and experts took part in it. Today the clue to the development of our production, and especially the export one, lies in this sphere in which there is still a lot to be done. The subject of the discussion and the decisions that were taken are presented in our review.
Preparation for the entrance examinations is approaching the final stage. Cadres are very important for the sphere of our economic interests. That is why we have considered the professions that are attractive today, as well as educational institutions that make serious offers to our youth. This is a basis of the reforms since not a single reform will be completed without competent cadres. We hope that we shall help future managers and businessmen in choosing of a profession. We traditionally present several interesting discussions in the scientific rubric on the problems of the Georgian economy.
Thank you for remaining our devoted readers.
