Despite the short period of post-soviet time there were real conditions for the development of independent demographic thought in Georgia. They can be divided into 4 parts:
1. Existence of national demographic personnel;
2. Establishment of scientific hearths and journal “Demography” as well as the establishment of demographic department within the system of healthcare ministry;
3. Existence of primary demographic information collected for the last two years;
4. Aggravation of difficult demographic problem in the country.
Many scientific demographers (Tsiuri Antadze, Lamara Beridze, Mzia Bekaia, Merab Gejua, Zurab Gokadze, Shota Tetvadze, George Muladze, Elgudja Menabdishvili, Mirian Tukhashvili, George Pirtskhalava, Mzia Shelia, George Tsuladze, Lia Chkonia, Vakhtang Jaoshvili, etc.) created numerous scientific works in these conditions. They made an important contribution to the research of various demographic problems.
The works analyze the issues of birth, marriage, death-rate, reproduction, migration, ethnodemographic processes, family problems as well as mixed marriages, ageing of population, demographic situation of refugees, number of world population and ethnic relations. Demographic indices are calculated.
