QUALITATIVE POTENTIAL AND PRESENT SITUATION ON THE MARKET OF GEORGIAN RED TABLE WINES (ABSTRACT)

E. Sardjveladze, D. Tsulaia

In case of being produced properly Georgian red table wines are not inferior to famous Burgundy and Bordeaux wines in their quality, extract content, intensive dark-ruby color and harmonicity.

In Georgia along with honest producers with good professional knowledge and skills there are also a lot of dishonest illegal ones, who use false labels similar to those used by successful firms and produce low quality wines. Acting this way they cause damage to not only their honest competitors but to the Georgian budget as well since they don’t pay taxes and create danger to human health.
Widespread falsification has greatly shaken the image of Georgian wines, in particular of red table wines, not only the on the domestic market but on the world market as well. In order to improve the situation it’s necessary to take measures aimed at:
– permanent monitoring to uncover uncertified and falsified wines and their producers,
– raising of wine quality and its competitiveness to the international standards.
In case of proper advertising campaign and marketing research of both the domestic and the world market high quality of Georgian red table wines will increase the export demand which in its turn will contribute to development of the country’s economy and increasing the incomes of both the producers and the population employed in this field.
