In conditions of globalization process any weak sovereign country like Georgia cannot stand pressure and therefore it is aspiring for integration in the largest regional formation – European Union.
According to Euro-regional policy, different regions should have economic and political ties with regions of other countries. Therefore, some regions of Georgia try to establish trade links with European countries.
Despite recent challenges, the value of export and import as well as number of resident countries increases in Georgia. In 1994 there was export to 54 countries and in 2003 ? to 120 countries.
Each region makes its own contribution to Georgia’s foreign relations. Kakheti region has become especially active in its foreign business relations. Friendly and business agreements were concluded with France, Ukraine, Poland and Austria. This produced significant practical results. Negotiations are being held with regions of Italy, Japan, China, Russia and Rumania.
Kakhetian production is exported to many countries. In 2003 export volume of the region’s industrial production made up 7,1% of the country’s similar indicator.
Commodity structure and prices on regional consumer market have changed significantly in recent years as a result of foreign economic relations of the country and its regions. Kakheti as one of Georgian agrarian regions has chances of filling its own market with agricultural produce and having export production. Creating favourable background for external trade improves consumer market and socio-economic indicators of the region.
