International integration – economic prospects of Georgia and Ukraine (ABSTRACT)

Ukraine is the country with which Georgia has one of the biggest commodity circulation. A certain production, be that foodstuffs, iron, medicine or other goods, is either imported or exported from Georgia.

Traditional warm relationships between the two countries have become more strengthened after the revolutionary changes, and this led to the declaration of the present year as the year of Georgia. On the initiative of the Georgian and Ukrainian prime-ministers as well as the Commerce and Industry Chamber of Georgia presentation of Georgian production was held in Kiev on the 28th of February. The presentation held in the “Ukrainian House” was attended by the visiting prime-minister of Georgia Zurab Nogaideli and his Ukrainian colleague Julia Timoshenko as well as by businessmen of many prominent Ukrainian companies. More than 50 Georgian companies took part in the exhibition including companies that are interested in export of their own production to Ukraine.
Georgian business, both small-size, mid-size and large-size one, was presented totally in Ukraine. It was pleasant that Georgian businessmen were met by local Georgian businessmen of Ukraine who have quite successful businesses there in various fields: port service, transportation, metallurgy, agriculture, etc.
The visit of Georgian delegation to Ukraine ended in particular results. Many interesting contracts were signed, which will serve to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries still more. The well-known Georgian company “Kakhetian Traditional Wines” made an export contract in Ukraine. JSC “Madneuli” has, in fact, invited to Georgia representatives of the companies to Georgia that would provide consultancy to “Madneuli” on technical re-equipment. Besides, Georgian aviation department concluded a contract with the Ukrainian party on increasing the frequency of regular flights. The company “Kartuli Shakari” has had many meetings and its visit might be deemed as successful.
In general, the visit of Georgian businessmen to Ukraine might be deemed as successful. Hosts showed a great interest. This does not concern only Ukrainian business-circles, but also representatives of culture, art, science and other circles.
Patronage of the Georgian delegation by the prime-minister has produced a more favorable effect on the visit. It was clear in the meeting that executive governments of the both countries are ready to do their best for business promotion. This was testified by the visit of the two countries’ prime-ministers to the event.
Jemal Inaishvili, the president of the Commerce and Industry Chamber of Georgia, had a meeting with the Ukrainian colleague, where once again traditions of friendly relationships between the two countries’ Industry and Commerce Chambers were accentuated. The case in point was new prospects and new scales to promote cooperation between businesses of the two countries.
