In 2002, Georgian Academy of Science was joined by a new corresponding member – professor Avtandil Silagadze. Mr. Avtandil Silagadze has passed an interesting path in the science. He is a son of the University.

He proceeded to the research of economic thought when he was still young, and he has never given up this difficult and honourable sphere. Today, the history of Georgian thought was enriched with a number of important researches. “Issues of the history of economic thought” published by the University in 2001 is of special interest. It analyses main trends of XVI-XX century economic thought from mercantilism till modern times.
It consists of two parts: the first is devoted to J.B.Kolber, predecessors of classic school, D.Ricardo, T.R.Maltusi, N.Senior, J.B.Sace, J.S.Mill, the German school of history (F.List, G.Roscher, B.Hildebrand, K.Knisi, G.Shmoler) and analysis of Karl Marx’ s economic ideas; the second part describes American institutionalization, theory of monopolistic competition, Keinz’ period from neoclassic time, origin of German neo-liberalism ideas, economic ideas of main representatives of econometrics, monetary and neo-classic synthesis.
We are surprised at the great deal of work on making economic explanatory dictionary performed by Mr. Avto and the Georgian group G.Goshadze, V.Zurabishvili, T.Demetrashvili. The economic explanatory dictionary contains 6000 terms. It gives a brief history of economic thought. A list of monetary units is attached to the dictionary.
The monograph “Post-social transformation: Georgian economy on the eve of XXI century” is of special interest. It was issued by author staff together with T.Baasilia and T.Chikvaidze.
The main issues of social-economic development in Georgia are studied in the monograph: the objective necessity and essence of economic transformation, results of the reforms as well as consideration of the ways of averting finance and credit crisis, the necessity of implementing a new strategy of future development and reforms.
